Whether with a brush, a finger or a pencil, Martie Pretorius is always creating some sort of an art piece.

" I began sketching when I was 12, I'm a self taught artist who reads and search a lot for different styles and techniques. I find much joy and inspiration in other artist's works and in my surroundings.My favourite artist overseas is Jason Morgan and locally Roy Astley Fryer, I'm passionate about art and I would like to capture the subject on canvas like they do, it is real and you can relate to their work."

She started out with pencil and charcoal but decided it was time for color, she took up oil painting and fell quickly in love with the medium. She grew this talent through experimenting and was then mentored by Betzy Geldenhuys who uses vibrant colors on canvas in 2007.

"I truly believe that an artist could spend a lifetime exploring with color and the results of color mixing, there are just so many possibilities and results but the technique is most important."

She painted a few decorative paintings(specializing in flower decorative art) for friends and family by order and only started painting full time July 2009. She is trying out a new style and technique, her mentor is Roy Astley Fryer a world-renowned artist specializing in bird art.
